The Dependent Visa is a permanent visa issued to spouses or common-law partners of Canadian PR holders or citizens. This visa allows the holder to stay in Canada permanently and serves as a pathway to acquire citizenship after residing in the country for 1092 days.
The Spouse Open Work Permit (SOWP) is a temporary visa granted to dependents of Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) holders, such as those with study or closed work permits, who are currently living in Canada. The SOWP allows the spouse to stay and accompany their partner in Canada. The duration of the stay depends on the expiration date of the TRV holder’s visa. The SOWP is issued after verifying the genuineness of the relationship, and child dependents can be included in the application.
